Paul meets Jeanne and they begin an extended but purely anonymous sexual relationship, in which they do not even tell each other their names. As times goes by, their story of loneliness and marginalization comes to light: he is an alcoholic coping with a difficult past, while she is preparing to get married but is not able to escape Paul’s sickening demands. One day, in the middle of a tango competition, Jeanne tells Paul she does not want to see him again. He begs for another chance and chases her back to their apartment, where she ultimately shoots him.
